B Corp recertification

B Corp recertification on the new standards

What's changed for existing B Corps, when you're due, and how to stay ready across the new five-year cycle.

Short answer

Existing B Corps now recertify on the B Lab Standards V2. Companies with 2026 recertification dates received a 12-month extension; B Lab expects those due in 2027 and 2028 to recertify on their existing date. Your old score doesn't carry over: you'll need to meet every applicable V2 requirement and pass an independent audit.

When do I need to recertify?

Check your recertification date in B Impact. 2026 dates got a 12-month extension onto V2. Dates in 2027 and 2028 are expected to stay as posted, on the new standards. B Lab U.S. & Canada encourages submitting about two months before your date.

B Lab began recertifying existing B Corps on V2 in January 2026. Companies whose recertification date fell in 2026 transitioned to the new standards with a 12-month extension. B Lab expects recertifications in 2027 and 2028 to be on the new standards and on the existing date, with no extension.

Companies selling to consumers in the EU had earlier deadlines tied to the ECGT Directive. If that applies to you, check B Lab's ECGT guidance directly.

What's different about recertifying on V2?

Four things: pass/fail requirements instead of a score, an audit by an independent assurance provider, a certificate valid for five years, and requirements that phase in at Year 3 and Year 5 with surveillance audits in between.

Practices that earned points before may land differently now, and a strong total can no longer offset a gap. After your audit you get a report listing any nonconformities. Major ones must be fixed before you're certified; minor ones must be addressed by the next audit, or they're elevated to major.

How often you're audited depends on size and sector. Micro and small companies are audited at Year 0, Year 3 and Year 5; larger companies are likely to be audited annually.

How Ecolytics helpsEcolytics keeps evidence attached to each requirement year-round, so surveillance audits draw on the same record rather than a fresh round of document hunting. See it in a demo →

Do I need a consultant to recertify?

No. Many B Corps recertify with their own team, especially if the people who certified last time are still there. A consultant helps when institutional knowledge has left, the business has changed shape, or you want help interpreting new V2 requirements.

Start with what made the last cycle hard. If it was knowing what the standard meant, a consultant is worth it. If it was finding documents and getting colleagues to respond, better process and tooling usually fix it for less.

How Ecolytics helpsEcolytics works for both: your team on its own, or with your consultant in the same account. See it in a demo →
